Unintentional bug in Valorant makes Phoenix unplayable
Riot’s FPS shooter, Valorant received another update, the patch 1.06. The devs wanted to fix the sound associated with the flashes of 2 agent, Phoenix and Breach. But an unintentional bug came to light.
The patch was rolled out with the unintentional bug (of which the developers weren’t aware of), which increased the arc of Phoenix’s curveball.
This bug has now changed the way of playing the agent entirely. Dodging the curveball (flash) has become easier because of the extended arc, giving enemies more time to react, or simply step forward making the curveball flash pop behind them. Even if they get flashed, it’s harder to follow up and get the kill with the new changes.
The change to Phoenix’s curveball had the whole community confused if it was meant to nerf him or buff him.
The change made it easier for enemies to dodge the curveball which would be considered as a nerf to the agent’s ability, but also, the change could work wonders in a team environment, making phoenix a better team agent to help his team by flashing them in, which would be a buff in a way.
A twitter user named ‘Pirkzy’ called out ‘Morello’, the Riot Games character designs lead for Valorant, saying that the agent was ruined.
@RiotMorello Phoenix is ruined now. Like in order to flash through doors effectively, you have to stand 10 feet away and can’t hug the wall, or else you’ll flash yourself or the whole team. Or even your flash goes behind the enemy on other side. Pls think about reverting.

This tweet from Morello was a huge relief for the community who were worried about the agent being useless.
A hotfix to fix the issue will be rolled out probably sometime soon.
Even though this was a bug, it has opened up a new perspective. A point of discussion. Would such a change benefit the agent in the long-term? Would it make the agent more helpful to the team?

The above tweet makes it clear that the developers definitely aren’t thinking about that, at least for now.
It’ll be interesting to see if the developers would want to make changes to other agents, while they receive backlash for damaging abilities ruining the real gun gameplay and while ‘Killjoy’, the latest addition to the agents is still broken.
