Ubisoft revamps the chat system for Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft had removed the chat feature from Ubisoft Connect to make some improvements and “revamp” it. Now the company has introduced a new “revamped” chat system for Ubisoft Connect that focuses on keeping 1 on 1 interactions cleaner and protecting users against toxicity.

A lot in this chat system update has to do with providing non-toxic and safe online interaction environments for the users. Users of course can always block other users they don’t want to communicate with, but Ubisoft is making some additional changes to improve the overall experience.

To ensure the user safety, all active 1 on 1 chats and chat history will no longer be available, perhaps similar to the way Steam chat works. For group chats, history will still be available the way it was earlier.

Also, groups chats will have a maximum of 24 participants. Chat groups that were created before the update and have more than 24 participants, will be removed. Chat groups that were created before the update, have less than 24 participants and have been active for the last 30 days will remain the same, and messages will stay in the chat history as well.

Chat logs are a key bit of information that can aid us in investigations, however this doesn’t mean they should exist forever.“, says Ubisoft in the announcement. These logs are stored in encrypted form and Ubisoft will be decrypting them only when needed for further investigation into a matter. Further going forward, Ubisoft will be storing the chat logs for a maximum of 3 months only.

Talking about the new chat system, Ubisoft says, “the new system will enable us to quickly implement new quality of life features, additional anti-toxicity measures, and make it easier to implement on additional platforms beyond PC in the future.”

It’s great to see Ubisoft take steps to improve the user experience, let it be in terms of UI enhancements, quality update, additional features, etc.
