Twitch will be running mid-roll ads on streams for both affiliated as well as partnered streamers starting September 15th.

As of now the ads will be run only for select viewers on a trial basis and will run only for non-subscribing viewers.

Even though Twitch streamers will benefit through the revenue earned, it still is a very little amount and not worth the time of their viewers.

The main problem with this new change is that streamers won’t be able to control when to display ads. Ads will be run automatically, which might hurt the viewing numbers for smaller creators.

Both streamers as well as viewers are unhappy with this change and are expressing their concerns via Twitter.

TSM Break makes a really good point about the possibility of mid-roll ads ruining the viewing experience during a crucial game changing moments in esports tournaments.

Nobody wants their experience ruined by ads, but when it happens during an intense 1v1 fight in an esports tournament, it really bothers the viewers.

One positive in this change is while mid-roll ads are running, users can still watch the stream in a smaller window which will be muted.

As of now this is just an experiment but it is likely that Twitch will implement the change with minor changes.
