Top 5 action-adventure games coming to PlayStation in 2021

If you are a PlayStation user or just a curious gamer who is interested in playing the latest titles coming to the platform, we have a list of some of the best and most awaited action-adventure games coming to Playstation in 2021. Some of these games are more on the adventure side of things while others are more focused on straight up intense combat action. Let’s just dive into it.

Note: Even though the initial date of release is set to be in year 2021,some of these games might get delayed to 2022 or further due to the ongoing pandemic.

God of War Ragnarok:

Ragnarok is the ninth installation in the franchise and a sequel to 2018’s God of War.

The God of War franchise is loosely based on Greek mythology, while the 2018 installment dived into the Norse mythology. The ending of God of War(2018) teases the forthcoming of Ragnarok(End of the world) and there’s also a secret ending that shows a dream/vision in which Thor, the god of thunder confronts Kratos and his son.

Game director Cory Barlog has confirmed that the future games of the franchise will be set in Norse mythology. Also, Atreus, the son of Kratos(the protagonist) will also be part of the future games.

The game is being developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. For now all we know is that the game is currently in development and coming in 2021.

Horizon Forbidden West:

Horizon Forbidden West is an upcoming sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn (2017). The game is a post apocalyptic open world action RPG(role playing game)

In this sequel, the protagonist, Aloy is tasked to find the source of a plague that is slowly infecting and killing all life forms. As the name suggests, the story takes place on the west coast of America, in a post-apocalyptic world. Specifically California, Utah and Nevada.

The game will see a lot of exploration of open lands and under the water in the protagonist’s attempt to find the source of a plague. On her journey she will encounter deadly enemies and several machine threats.

The game is being developed by Guerrilla Games and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is set to release as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Ghostwire: Tokyo:

Ghostwire: Tokyo Is a first person action-adventure video game developed by Tango Gameworks & published by Bethesda Softworks.

Majority of Tokyo’s population has vanished mysteriously, and otherworldly spirits (known as Visitors) have taken over the city. As the protagonist you will have to to save Tokyo by fighting these spirits/otherworldly creatures. You can use your psychic and paranormal abilities to fight them.

Eventually, you will encounter a group wearing Hannya masks(A mask that represents a jealous female demon who has two sharp bull-like horns). The group may unveil the mystery behind these strange mysterious events in Tokyo.

Although the game is being developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks,

Although, Microsoft recently acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of both Tango Gameworks( developer of the game) & Bethesda Softworks (publisher of the game), Phil Spencer( VP of Gaming at Microsoft and Head of Xbox) has stated that Xbox plans to honor the PS5 exclusivity commitment for Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo.

This means the game will still be coming to Sony’s PlayStation, despite the ZeniMax Media acquisition by arch rival Microsoft.

Deathloop:

Deathloop is an upcoming action adventure game in which Colt (the protagonist), an assassin, is stuck in a time loop, waking up on a beach on the island of Blackreef, a former army base where strange experiments were held. The residents of the island gather to hold a night party that never ends as the island resets to the start of the party at the end of every night. Colt, the assassin is assigned to take out 8 people at this party before midnight, but he too is stuck in the loop with them. Because the island resets every night, Colt wakes up every morning on the island with no progress and all of his targets alive if he dies or fails to kill all 8 of his targets before midnight. You can make use of stealth or parkour to traverse the map and assassinate the targets.

Also, there’s a twist. There’s another character, Julianna. Julianna is an agent tasked to protect the time loop, and take you out. The game’s multiplayer feature allows a player to take up Julianna’s role and has the objective to kill Colt before he breaks the loop by killing all his targets. During single player, Julianna is controlled by the game’s AI.

The game is developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Deathloop also will be exclusive to PlayStation on launch as Xbox will honour the exclusivity commitment by Bethesda. Deathloop will be released on PlayStation 5 as a timed-exclusive and later on PC.

Hogwarts Legacy:

Even though this game doesn’t feature intense action, it still will be a good action-adventure experience.

Hogwarts Legacy is a video game set in the late 1800s in and around Hogwarts(A school of Witchcraft and Wizardry) in Wizarding World, the fictional universe that’s part of the J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novel series. The players will be able to do magic, explore open world locations, discover secrets, tame mythical beasts and more.

The game is currently being developed by WB’s Avalanche Studios and published by WB’s Portkey Games and is set to be released for PlayStation, Xbox and PC in 2021.

Even though this game doesn’t feature the most intense action, it still could be a good action-adventure experience.
