Team Velocity Gaming wins Skyesports Championship 2.0 Phase 1 Finals

Velocity Gaming has won the Phase 1 finals of the Skyesports Championship 2.0. The tournament is in association with HyperX, WD Black, LOCO & more and is divided into 2 phases, the combined prize pool of INR 1,50,000 has been equally divided between both phases. Team Noble defeated OR Esports in the semis and proceeded to become the first grand finalist. Team Velocity became the second grand finalist after taking the win over Global Esports. A semi-finals matchup that was nothing less of a grand final.

The Grand Finals:

The Grand Finals was a bo3 matchup where Team Velocity Gaming and Team Noble Esports faced off to determine the phase 1 winner.

Here’s how it all went down in the finals,

Map 1:

On Map 1 Bind, Team Noble won the pistol round which forced Team Velocity Gaming to eco the next round. But even with an eco, Team Velocity Gaming answered right back excali clutching round 2 for his team.  Team Velocity steam rolled the entire half winning all the rounds after the pistol. At the end of first half, the score was 11-1 in Team Velocity’s favour. Eventually, Team Velocity closed the map with a dominant 13-3 victory.

Despite their loss, Tejas “Rexy” Kotian from Noble Esports had an amazing performance and was the MVP for map 1.

Map 2:

Map 2 was Ascent, it was a back and forth affair in the early stages of the game as we saw Noble taking the 4-0 lead and then Team VLT fighting back to close the lead and even the round difference with 4-4 score. Both teams were performing equally good and many of the rounds were really close. However, Team Velocity won map 2 with a 13-7 scoreline. Sabyasachi ”antidote” Bose from Team Velocity Gaming was the match MVP for map 2.

With their teamwork and synergy, Team Velocity Gaming won the phase 1 of the tournament in a dominant 2-0 fashion winning both map 1 & 2, and the first place prize of INR 40,000.

Noble had a pretty good performance throughout the tournament but faltered in the finals against Team Velocity Gaming. Noble finished second place and won INR 25,000 in prize money.

In the post game interview, talking about the teamplay, Sabyasachi ”antidote” Bose referred teammate Tejas “rite2ace” Sawant as the clutchgod of India and Anuj “Amaterasu” Sharma (IGL) as the brain of the team. He also said that the team’s perfect balance helps a lot with the consistently good results.

Team Velocity had recently won the India Today League Valorant Cup which granted them a slot in the PvP Esports Open Championship Regional Finals. A tournament that is supposed to be held in Singapore if the pandemic situation improves.

We might see Team Velocity Gaming skipping a few upcoming tournaments in order to better prepare and craft new strategies for their International matchup in the $15,000 PvP Esports Open Championship Regional Finals.

Because, when asked about the tournament, antidote replied saying they have been really busy for the past couple of weeks with official games/matches in many different tournaments and they will be skipping some tournaments for team practice.

Team Velocity Gaming has won every tournament they participated in till now, and still remains undefeated. Will Team Velocity Gaming win phase 2 as well?
