Return of PUBG Mobile in India looks likelier than ever

It’s been approximately 9 months since PUBG Mobile was banned in India. There were several rumors about the game making a comeback but they all eventually turned out to be not true. But, there is a new glimmer of hope as the return of PUBG Mobile in India is now looking likelier than ever due to several reasons that we are going to discuss below.

Reason #1: New name

PUBG Mobile India is likely to be rebranded as “Battlegrounds Mobile India”, according to GemWire and several sources.

Several social media links associated with the Indian version have also been changed. Searching for “youtube.com/c/battlegroundsmobilein” in your browser’s address bar will direct you to the official PUBG Mobile India YouTube channel. Also the Facebook social handle for the game now is @BattlegroundsMobileIN. And same for the Korean version, it too has been changed to @BattlegroundsMobileKR. You can also visit the official website i.e. battlegroundsmobile.kr to confirm the name change.

Gemwire shared the poster for the same stating it was found via an embedded link to a video on Vimeo.

According to GemWire one the videos was named “India Recall Campaign Motion_v02.mp4” which hints that the game might be coming to India soon.

As of now there’s no details or speculations on why the game now has a different name and what changes with it.

Reason #2: New videos

It seems like some new videos were accidentally made public by the official PUBG Mobile India channel on YouTube as several subscribers received notification for new uploads.

Unfortunately, these videos were immediately made public, so no one was able to watch them. But it does show that there is some work going on for the Indian release behind the scenes.

Reason #3: Krafton’s interest in the Indian market

During the Indian Gaming Conference 2021 talking about PUBG Mobile’s comeback in India, Krafton’s Head-Corporate Development Sean Hyunil Sohn said “We care about the Indian market greatly,” he said. “Definitely we will work hard to make it happen“.

Krafton Inc. the company behind PUBG Mobile recently donated INR 15,000,000 to the PM Cares fund in India towards COVID-19 relief. The donation will be helpful to fight the COVID-19 virus.

This all again goes to show how important the Indian market is to Krafton.

PUBG Mobile India, or as now it will be called “Battlegrounds Mobile India” is rumored to launch soon, maybe even this month. The rumors do make some sense with all the above mentioned reasons and more importantly there’s a new competitor in the market now.

Reason #4: Apex Legends Mobile

Respawn Entertainment & EA Games are also targeting the Indian region with their own FPS battle-royale game, Apex Legends Mobile. The closed beta for Apex Legends Mobile recently went live in India & Philippines. Although the game was incompatible on most devices those that got a chance to play it were pretty happy with the game. Krafton would not want to lose it’s player base and audience in India to Apex Legends Mobile and hence it makes more sense to try to release “Battlegrounds Mobile India” as soon as possible.

Combining all the rumors, news & facts we know up until now, Global Esports made a video discussing 7 important facts regarding Battlegrounds Mobile India launch in India. You can watch the video here:
