Release date and patch notes revealed for new Left 4 Dead 2 update

Release date for Left 4 Dead 2’s The Last Stand update has been confirmed. The Last Stand update will be releasing on September 24th, which means the game will be receiving an update after more than 10 years.

A video and some information about the update being in development was made public earlier last month.

One of the developers recently uploaded a official trailer video on YouTube, highlighting major changes that will be introduced into the game.

The update will not only introduce a new campaign, but also 26 new survival maps to the game. 4 new scavenge maps have also been added as a part of the update. The update also brings 30 new achievements for the new maps and campaign. Locations like Cane Field from Hard Rain and Barge from The Sacrifice might also become a part of the survival mode with this update.

Main menu UI will see the addition of Versus Survival game mode and single player will be available for all game modes.

New and previously unused voice lines for survivors have been added, including lines for Rochelle giving her a personality of her own.

The game will also feature the L4D1 infected and sounds/music from Left 4 Dead 1.

2 new mutations, Rocketdude and Tank run and 2 new melee weapons, a pitchfork and a shovel have also been added.

The CSS(Counter Strike Source) weapons have officially been implemented into the game.

This update will fix various known bugs in the game such as spawn point bugs, the elevator bug where players fall down through the elevator and other bugs. Tank and Witch spawns have been fixed too. Also, unfair cheat spots might be removed in order to improve the gameplay experience.

Other big changes:

  • Animation overhaul for characters: Reworked idle, combat & incapacitated animations
  • PvP Enhancements: New attack spots, new tank spawns, and new infected ladders and other balance changes
  • Reworked gun models
  • Improved viewmodels and animations
  • New outro stats
  • Improved UI
  • Other bug and exploit fixes

The devs have done some other changes and additions that aren’t shared publicly yet. The devs want the community to find out those changes themselves.

Valve will also host a Left 4 Dead 2 free weekend in order to celebrate the new update.

This new update is “a collaborative effort by the community, for the community” which is officially supported by Valve.

This is one of the biggest updates ever entirely made by the community and officially supported by Valve for a Valve game. If this update drives enough people to play the game again, which it probably will, Valve might consider pushing more updates to the game.

This also opens up the possibility for new updates to other long forgotten Valve titles such as Team Fortress 2, Day of Defeat, Counter Strike:Source, Counter Strike 1.6 and more.
