Phasmophobia might not get a PvP mode

Yes, unfortunately Phasmophobia might not get a PvP mode, as the developer has other plans.

Phasmophobia’s developer has a roadmap for the game’s development which he updates from time to time. The roadmap is shared publicly on Trello. In the roadmap, the developer had mentioned bringing PvP(player vs player) mode to the game. This sparked an excitement among players, as they were happy to hear that their favourite horror co-op was getting a PvP mode. But apparently the developer never had a plan to actually introduce a PvP mode.

“The second PvP mode was added to the Trello to see what everyone’s reactions would be.”, said Dknighter, the developer of the game in an email interaction interview with IGN.

Right now I have no plans to add another game mode, as it would turn the game into something completely different, and push the game away from what I want it to be.”, explained Dknighter.I want the game to remain 4 players vs. 1 AI, and balance the game, then add new features around that style of gameplay.”

Dknighter said that his “only focus is getting the major bugs fixed” before he starts working on bringing new content to the game. He also mentioned that a lot of “new systems” need to be tested before release and a big stability update will be coming to the game that will fix most of these “major bugs”. An update recently dropped for the game on November 4 that made a lot of changes and fixed a lot of bugs.

Looks like the developer wants to keep the game the way it is and only focus on fixing the bugs and adding maps, items & other content. And, as the developer clearly stated, there are no plans right now for a PvP mode. But things might change along the road, who knows, so if you were waiting for a PvP mode, don’t lose hope.

What is Phasmophobia?

Phasmophobia is an indie survival horror game with VR support, developed and published by Kinetic Games. The game is available as early access on Steam for Windows PC.

The players are tasked with paranormal investigations in haunted locations where they have to find and interact with ghosts/spirits. The game implements a voice recognition AI that let’s the ghosts/entities in the game hear and interpret what the player is saying. The voice recognition is triggered when a player calls out the name of the entity. The AI responds to the players through different mediums, such as turning lights on/off, sound, etc.

Phasmophobia became popular as many YouTubers, and Twitch streamers started playing it, especially last month during Halloween.

Phasmophobia even made it to our list of horror co-op games to play with friends for Halloween.
