People Can Fly will permanently “brand” cheaters in Outriders

People Can Fly the developer behind Outriders plans to deal with cheaters in a unique way. People Can Fly will “brand” cheaters by adding a “discreet but visible” watermark.

Upon reaching 2 Million players for the game’s demo People Can Fly found out that around 200 players are cheating in the game. That’s a very small amount comparatively which is good. “We can see you all. Yes, even the person who gave themself 600 Legendary Weapons.”, said People Can Fly  in a blog post

People Can Fly will be taking actions against these cheaters and they have specified in the same blog what actions will be taken as the game’s official comes near.

Repercussions of being identified as having used cheats:

  • Repercussions are account wide, not character specific
  • You will not be able to matchmake with legit players
  • Matchmaking will likely take significantly longer
  • You will still be able to play solo
  • In future, your HUD will have a discreet but visible watermark placed on it so that gameplay footage created on this account can be readily identified as coming from a flagged account.

Repercussions are account wide and not character specific, meaning if you cheated with one character but later started afresh with a new character the game will still identify you as a cheater.

Once identified as a cheater your matchmaking will take longer time. Also, the game’s matchmaking will not match you with legit players but instead with other cheaters. This is like something that you see implemented by Mediatonic in Fall Guys, something that Mediatonic calls as Cheater Island. Your solo gameplay won’t be impacted by much, at least that what we think is the case.

Now the worst, People Can Fly will brand accounts of cheaters with a watermark flagging them as a cheater. This watermark will prevent content creators and streamers from cheating in the game as their gameplay footage will have the watermark which flags them as a cheater.

But what’s considered as cheating one might ask.

Here’s what is considered as cheating by People Can Fly:

It’s very simple, if your account has the watermark, you are a cheater.

People Can Fly said that all accounts will be checked for evidence of cheat use on the game’s launch day i.e. April 1st and even later at regular intervals. Don’t take the matter lightly as it’s no April’s Fools prank, People Can Fly will permanently “brand” any player identified as a cheater on and after the game’s official launch.

People Can Fly has given cheaters one last chance to save themselves from the watermark branding. If you cheated during the demo to “just to try it out”, and wish to start the game afresh upon release you still have one chance. If they wish to not get branded they will have to DELETE all characters and items from their entire account. Basically People Can Fly is letting you wipe the slate clean this one time.
