Naughty Dog job listing suggests that the developer might be working on what could be ‘The Last of Us Part 2’ multiplayer

A recent job listing posted on developer Naughty Dog’s official website suggests that the the company is working on what apparently is a multiplayer game. The job listing is for an Economy Designer for a multiplayer game.

Naughty Dog is looking for someone to “Design, implement, and tune game economy and player progression systems” for an “multiplayer action game“(spotted by Gamespot). It isn’t specified for which multiplayer game the listing is, but speculations are that it could be for The Last of Us Part 2 standalone multiplayer, Factions.

The job listing on Naughty Dog’s website

“We’re looking for a passionate multiplayer economy designer who can help us create avenues for self-expression for our players, ensure robust longevity to our games, and give our players great rewards to strive for.”, states the job description.

You can also see it states “Robust knowledge of multiplayer action games” & “Experience designing successful economies in PC or console multiplayer games” under the skill requirements for the job.

The Last of Us 2 released back in June 2020. Before the release Naughty Dog had announced that the game will be releasing without the multiplayer mode, and so it did. Naughty Dog had plans to release the multiplayer mode later down the line, presumably as a standalone game, it being too ambitious to be added to the original The Last of Us Part 2.

In August 2020, a 12 second leaked footage for Factions resurfaced on YouTube and grabbed everyone’s attention.

Naughty Dog has been pretty silent about the multiplayer game for a long time, but now with the job listing looks like Naughty Dog could be working on it already behind the scenes.

It still isn’t confirmed if the “multiplayer game” is the same Factions multiplayer, but it is highly likely that it is the same.
