Minecraft’s Steve and Alex will be the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters
In a video presentation, Nintendo revealed the next DLC Fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
And the fighter is…. Actually there’ more than one. The fighters are Steve and Alex from Minecraft.
This was totally unexpected as it’s really hard to imagine the Minecraft characters fitting into the Smash world.
The presentation was a basic preview and understading of the characters, how they look, move and how they attack.
The players will be able to play as either Steve or Alex and will be able to swap to the Elderman or Zombies.
Bringing Minecraft into the world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was anything but easy. The devs had to make a lot of changes to the game in order to accomodate the new fighters. Director Masahiro Sakurai said, “We have to rework all our existing stages so that blocks can be placed in them.”
While talking about implementing the Minecraft characters into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Director Sakurai explained “What’s difficult, however, is the programming work required to bring the character to life. It’s a massive challege”.
But it was not something that could stop Director Sakurai or any of the devs.
“Despite all that[The difficulties with adding the Minecraft characters to the game], it looks like we’re somehow going to be able to release the fighter”, said Masahiro Sakurai.
From what we saw in this trailer, we can expect to see Steve using a anvil to crush his enemies or some TNT blocks to blow them up. These tricks will help level up the field and compensate for Steve’s small melee wielding arms. The trailer showed some fighters battling it out in Minecraft themed locations. Also, there was a glimpse of the minecart and tracks in the trailer.
There will be no additional new fighters revealed other than Steve and Alex in this livestream.

There will be another broadcast on October 3rd in which you can have an in-depth look at the new Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter. You can watch the broadcast live at 7:30 AM PT/ 8:00 PM IST. The presentation will take place just before Minecraft Live & will be roughly 45 minutes long.
Nintendo says, “There will be no additional new fighters revealed…”, which again raises the question, is this their way of teasing something? There could be a hidden meaning behind them saying this. We just have to wait till October 3rd to find out.
The new additions are a part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 which is supposed to feature 6 new fighters. Now, we have Steve and Alex from Minecraft as the second addition, the first being Min Min from Arms. This means, we still should have 4 more fighters coming before December 31st 2021.
It looks like the devs have found a way to add the minecraft characters while still maintaining the game’s overall theme. The presentation on October 3rd will dive deeper into the details help the fans understand more about the new additions.
