Microsoft’s purchase of ZeniMax Media approved by the EU

Back in September of 2020 it was announced that Microsoft will be acquiring ZeniMax Media the parent company of Bethesda Softworks.

Back then, Phil Spencer, Xbox Head & VP of Gaming at Microsoft said that the deal will complete by the second half of 2021.

The European Union has approved Microsoft’s purchase of ZeniMax Media. The purchase has also been approved by United States SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) and a Notice of Effectiveness has also been published(Thanks: GamesRadar). The deal still isn’t completed, but the approvals were quite essential and now with the major hurdles already cleared, the deal can move forward.

After the acquisition Bethesda will be a part of Microsoft but still will be running somewhat independently as the company wants to preserve the culture at Bethesda. Whether future Bethesda games will release on other platforms will be decided on a “case by case basis.”

This acquisition will make Xbox fans happy as a lot will change for them in coming years after the acquisition, in a good way of course.

Microsoft’s Xbox could very well become a RPG powerhouse once this deal is completed. Bethesda is a giant publisher, you should expect AAA RPGs from Bethesda to be available with Xbox Game Pass on day 1 of release.
