Krafton, the developer behind BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) has appointed a CEO for its operations in India. Sean Hyunil Sohn has been appointed as Krafton’s India CEO. The news came out today via a Korean outlet. Anuj Tandon, Head (India & MENA regions) of Corporate Development at Krafton shared the same via Twitter today.
Sean Hyunil Sohn has taken a one-way ticket to India (Bengaluru) as Krafton’s India CEO the tweet says.
Sean Hyunil Sohn joined PUBG Corporation as a CFO in 2017 and after the merger with Krafton in 2020, he served as the head of the investment division.
“The Indian game market is at the beginning of its development, so it has great potential for expansion, and users’ interest in games and entertainment is high, so we believe it to be a market of opportunity.” said, Sean Hyunil Sohn (Translated from Korean).”We will expand Krafton’s IP (intellectual property) and gaming experience to more countries by targeting them.“, he further added. This is a big decision by Krafton. The company has already shown great interest in the region. It has made investments in NODWIN Gaming, an Indian esports company & Loco, an Indian game streaming platform. This decision by Krafton is likely a result of the massive success Battlegrounds Mobile India has seen in the country. The game surpassed 34 million registered users within a week after its release on Android. The game is yet to be launched on iOS devices.
