Jio announces ‘JioMart Gameathon’ FreeFire esports tournament

After the PUBG Mobile ban, other competitive shooter games like COD Mobile and FreeFire have risen to popularity as the large PUBG Mobile community got divided between these two games. Both the games have interesting esports tournaments and a competitive scene.

While COD Mobile esports is not known for its battle royale mode, FreeFire having too many similarities with PUBG Mobile has become the choice of tournament organizers.

Reliance Jio, a company that has always seen future in the gaming space is jumping into the world of esports as they have announced an esports tournament called ‘JioMart Gameathon #GetSetGame’ this month.

‘JioMart Gameathon #GetSetGame’ is a FreeFire tournament which will span over 3 days from October 30 to November 1.

The tournament is a free for all tournament with no registration fees and will feature a prize pool of INR 25,000.

INR 16,000 will go to the tournament winner i.e. first place finisher, INR 8,000 will go to the first runner-up i.e. second place finisher. And, INR 1,000 for the MVP of the tournament. The games will be streamed live on YouTube and JioTV.

The registrations for the tournament have already begun on 26th Oct 2020 12:00 AM IST and will continue till 29th Oct 2020 12:00 AM IST. Players can register for the tournament on Jio Games.

The tournament will be divided into 4 different phases/rounds and will feature a total of 576 teams.

Round 1: Qualifier Stage

The qualifier stage will begin on Friday, October 30, 11:00 IST onwards.

This round will feature a total of 576 teams. The 576 teams will be divided into 48 lobbies where all teams will compete in a bo1(best of 1) format. Only the top 2 teams from each lobby will qualify for the next round.

Round 2: Quarter Finals

The second stage i.e. quarter finals will begin on Saturday, October 31, 11:00 IST onwards.

Round 2 will see the 96 qualified teams compete for a chance to make it to the Semis. 8 lobbies will be hosted, where top 3 teams from each lobby will qualify for the Semi Finals round. This round will also follow a bo1 format.

Round 3: Semi Finals

This round will see the 24 qualified teams from the last round compete in a bo1 to make it to the grand finals round. The Semi Finals will be played on Sunday November 1 from 13:00 IST to 16:00 IST. The 24 teams will be divided into 2 lobbies of 12 where the top 6 from each will qualify for the next round i.e. the Grand Finals.

Round 4: Grand Finale

The Grand Finale will be played on Sunday November 1 as well. It will be played from 17:00 IST to 20:00 IST and will feature the top 12 teams competing together, where 3 maps will be played.

The tournament will be played in TPP and in squad mode, meaning a team of 4 players. All matches will be played on the map Bermuda.

In a televised conversation with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd said that “gaming will be bigger than music, movies, and television put together”. Microsoft has also partnered with Jio to bring its cloud gaming service ‘xCloud’ to India.

Both Microsoft and Jio see potential and future in the Indian gaming market. With the announcement of JioMart Gameathon #GetSetGame tournament Jio has officially entered the world of esports. Hopefully we will see more and more tournaments for all esports titles in the near future.
