HyperX Cloud Core + 7.1 Gaming Headset Review
HyperX recently launched a new headset called the ‘HyperX Cloud Core + 7.1‘.
It is a wired gaming headset with a minimalistic yet classy design. It has a black metal frame made of aluminum with a significant signature “HyperX logo” in red on both sides.
Design:
The plastic on the headband is thick & looks durable. The design of the headset doesn’t allow it to swivel, but the headband will enable you to twist the headset to a certain extent. The headset has an appropriate amount of padding, so you won’t feel fatigued even after wearing the headset for a longer period.
The headset comes with an oval-shaped design that makes the ear cushions fit perfectly over the ears, unlike the circular ones that come with other headsets.
The breathable ear cushions provide comfort and don’t let your ears get sweaty, even after prolonged use.
There’s a 53 mm driver with 15Hz–25kHz frequency response. It comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, and it comes with an external USB audio box that acts as a converter to provide a virtual 7.1 experience. This makes the headset compatible with most multimedia platforms such as PC PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.
The USB audio box has an audio control dial on top which has buttons to adjust the volume and mute the microphone. There’s also another button that is used for turning the 7.1 virtual surround sound on/off.
The headset comes with a detachable microphone which goes into the 3.1mm audio port on the left side of the headset. The microphone is unidirectional, and the sound is clear, with no static noise. The voice captured through the microphone is low at times, but it isn’t a big problem as the microphone is bendable so that you can bend it closer to yourself. The microphone comes with a windshield, so your friends won’t have to hear you breathing.
The left side also has a wheel to control the volume when not using the USB audio control box.
Audio Quality:
The headset provides clear sound imaging. You can quickly know where your enemies are, which is great when you play competitive games, especially the first-person shooters like COD Warzone, CSGO, Valorant, etc.
Overall the sound is pretty good for the price, but the 7.1 virtual surround sound is a gimmick, and you shouldn’t consider it while choosing a headset.
The headset is Discord, and Teamspeak certified. These certifications are no gimmick to sell average quality headsets. These headsets go through some quality testing in which set of algorithms check the headsets and rate them based on different parameters. The headset must pass those tests, and only then it is awarded the certification.
Our Take:
Overall, HyperX Cloud Core + 7.1 is a headset worth spending money on. You get what you pay for. The headset is excellent for gaming and multimedia usage, but the 7.1 virtual sound isn’t that great.
The Indian Gaming community is getting bigger day by day, but the pockets aren’t, making the HyperX Cloud Core 7.1 headset a perfect fit for its price.
