Half-Life 2 ‘Breaking the Bar’ event breaks game’s records, Portal 2 event next

The Half-Life 2 community recently organized a fan-made community event called ‘Breaking the Bar‘ which aimed at breaking the concurrent player Steam records for the game. The fan-made event was organized by community members of Lambda Generation, a Half-Life fansite.

The event saw massive success registering a total of 16,101 concurrent players. The event broke the Steam concurrent player count peak record for the game which was a mere 6,882.

Not only that, but it also broke the previous record for all-time peak concurrent players which was 12,953 players from 10 years ago, set during the “A Red Letter Day” community event.

The release of Half-Life 2 predates the Steam tracking data and hence its data isn’t accurate. Still, it’s a huge achievement for the community nonetheless. And it just goes to show how dedicated the community is.

Half-Life 2 is also getting a community-made remaster called Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection with Valve’s consent.

Now the Lambda Generation community is also planning to host a #EnterThePortal event for Portal 2. Someone on the website proposed to organize the event saying, “we are planning to hold a #EnteringThePortal event similar to the already past #BreakingTheBar but in Portal 2.

Do note that there’s a slight change. The event will take place on September 4th instead so that more players can participate.

Everyone that owns a genuine Steam copy of Portal 2 can participate by just playing the game on September 4th at 3 pm GMT( i.e. 8:30 pm IST). Even if you don’t own the game you can watch streamers play the game to help the Portal community.
