Future of the gaming industry evolving with 5G

The gaming industry is accelerating at an unparalleled pace and is witnessing a paradigm shift with the roll-out of 5G in India. With this meteoric rise, gaming has moved beyond our screens, into the wider ecosystem of entertainment and pop culture. According to superData, there is now a bigger audience for gaming video than the combined audiences of OTT platforms, Hollywood, and the music industry. Such is the impact of the growing gaming community, where technology will play a crucial role to bolster the gaming revolution in India. The advent of the 5G services will provide and facilitate an enhanced and smooth gaming experience, this is just the beginning and as we move forward there will more disruptions in the industry.

While gaming is intended for an individual to relax, enjoy and destress, there are number of challenges that gamers face in their quest for an engaging gaming experience. In an ideal world, games should run seamlessly on your PC or cloud. However, sometimes gameplay gets interrupted because of the volatile internet connection, which gets extremely frustrating for gamers. Indian gamers also face issues regarding lack of storage as some of the most famous games take up a lot of space that sometimes also slows down the device. Another challenge for Indian gamers is incompatible hardware, some devices do not fulfil the technical requirements required to play certain games.

What will give the today’s gamer a seamless gaming experience?

The 5G roll out in India brought with it good news to many industries including the Indian gaming diaspora. With high speed, lower latency, and greater capacity, the 5G network will usher in a never-seen-before gaming culture where challenges will surely be addressed, we will also see gaming communities becoming networking platforms. Gamers will also tend to steer towards cloud gaming for no-holds-barred opportunities that greater internet performance will present, as players do not have to then rely on storage capacity or hardware compatibility. The cloud, with its ability to enhance infrastructure, data, and collaboration capability will see greater penetration of first-time gamers onto their platforms. Advertisers will have to keep their eyes and ears open to the available opportunities to explore through gaming platforms as the Indian consumer will be busy on these platforms.

In terms of leading the global race in 5G innovations, countries like the US, China, South Korea, Japan, Netherlands, and the Philippines have some of the biggest rollouts. There are many things that we as an industry can learn from their experiences. When preparations for 5G rollouts began, the U.S. at large was very focused on allocating bandwidth- low band to address coverage and then high band for speed and capacity, midband was put on the back burner. 5G roll-out in India has also been done in phases and industries will learn things on the go and adapt.

5G will also bring in an increased amount of investment into the Indian gaming ecosystem. Investors and VCs are betting big on the Indian gaming industry after considering the growth post-pandemic and the sheer potential of the market. From a population of 1.3 billion people, 300 million are gamers which speaks volumes of the investment opportunities in the country. India’s gaming Industry is at a once-in-a-generation inflection point of growth and 5G is only going to make things better and bigger for the gaming ecosystem.

Now.gg is ready to usher in the evolution that 5G will bring to India by removing the friction previously associated with device gaming and expanding gaming capabilities even to low and mid-tier cities that were once unable to handle these games and gamers. 5G will help in publishing games through the cloud that will broadly expand the user pool for gaming developers.

We are looking at a future where 5G becomes ubiquitous and no longer an anomaly. Games and gaming experiences will drastically evolve with developers and gamers adapting to changes within the ecosystem. India being a diverse nation with urban and rural communities, gaming companies have a big market to cater to and with the 5G technology, we only see the gaming galaxy, soon heading to capture the entire universe.
