Epic Games and Samsung sent #FreeFortnite care packages to gaming influencers and journalists

Epic Games has joined hands with Samsung to promote its #FreeFortnite movement.

Epic Games & Samsung have sent out #FreeFortnite care packages to an unknown number of influencers & gaming journalists, to promote its #FreeFortnite movement.

The package itself was similar to the boxes for Apple products, even using a similar font, just to mock the company.

The package says:

Hi there,

Fortnite was named the Samsung Galaxy Store Game of the Year for 2020. In celebration, we’ve teamed up with Samsung to send you a special box of #FreeFortnite gear.

While Fortnite may not currently be available on the App Store or Google Play, you can still get the latest Fornite updates directly from the Epic Games app on the Galaxy Store. Spread the word, #FreeFortnite.

Thank you,

The Epic Games Team

The package contains a “Free Fortnite” jacket and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7.

The jacket is in plain black color with a rainbow colored Llama mimicking the old Apple logo on both the front and back.

The packages were sent to Greg Miller who was a former editor at IGN and now runs a gaming YouTube channel, SSN Santa, Ducky The Gamer, MistyGod and many others.(Thanks: appleinsider)

One might ask, “Why is Samsung teaming up with Fornite in the fight?”

The answer isn’t that complicated. Right now Fortnite mobile is available on Android through Samsung’s Galaxy Store, also some might not agree with me here, but Apple and Samsung have been rivals for a long time, and there’s still a lot of beef between them.

Epic Games vs Apple

The battle between Epic Games & Apple has been going on for a while now. It started back in August this year when Epic added an alternative payment method to Fornite Mobile. This meant both the App Store and the Google Play Store wouldn’t get their commissions cut from the revenue generated from those in-game microtransactions. Both Apple & Google have since removed the game from their platforms stating it violates the platform’s policies.

While mobile players can still play the game via the Samsung Store on Android, the ones using iOS devices have no such option. That’s the reason Epic Games started the #FreeFortnite movement against Apple and its “non-competitive” policies.

Many big companies have jumped into the fight as their interests lie in it as well. Also, they want Apple to change its policies and aren’t happy with Apple’s big commissions cuts.

Both Epic & Apple are still fighting their lawsuit against each other, and it looks like Epic Games isn’t going to stop mocking Apple, at least anytime soon.
