CD Projekt Red has been a victim of a ransomware cyber attack

The developer behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has become a victim of a “targeted cyber attack”. Today  the company took to Twitter to share the news.

CDPR shared a statement in the tweet talking about the incident. “An unidentified actor gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD PROJEKT capital group, and left a ransom note.”, says the statement. The company’s internal systems are at risk due to the cyber attack, but the company has since secured its backups & IT infrastructure and begun restoring the data.

The company said “We can confirm that, to our best knowledge, the compromised systems did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services.

The company also said that they will not give in to the hackers and nor negotiate. “We are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach.”, said the company.

It looks like CD Projekt Red is taking all necessary steps to minimize the damage as much as possible. “We have already approached the relevant authorities, including law enforcement and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, as well as IT forensic specialists, and we will closely cooperate with them in order to fully investigate this incident.”, the statement says.
