Asus ROG Phone 5: Specifications, features and more
The ROG Phone 5 launched today in a virtual launch event livestreamed on YouTube.
ROG Phone 5 is a gaming smartphone targeted towards hardcore gamers. The phone comes with a powerful flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The display is 6.78″ FHD+ AMOLED display with 144hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling.
The ROG Phone 5 comes in multiple specification variants. The base variant for ROG Phone 5 comes with a 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage and a 12GB + 256GB storage variant.
The ROG Phone Pro comes with 16GB RAM+ 512GB internal storage. And the most impressive, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate comes with 18GB RAM + 512GB internal storage. The phone uses LPDDR5 RAM and UFS3.1 storage for all the variants.
The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is the first ever gaming smartphone with 18GB of RAM.
Most of the features of the ROG Phone 3 return with some tweaks as per customer feedback from the ROG Phone 3.
For instance, one of the best thing in ROG Phone 5 is that they have brought back the audio jack which wasn’t available for the ROG Phone 3. And, the phone still has two USB type-C ports just like the ROG Phone 3.
The phone can be paired with Aero Active Cooler which helps to keep the phone cool while you game for longer hours. Also, it seems like they have improved the Aero Active Cooler as compared to the one from last time, but it still isn’t as effective in keeping the phone cool. Seems like ROG needs to make some big changes to the Aero Active Cooler. The Aero Active Cooler also has a RBG lighting on the back, two extra buttons and a kickstand. The Aero Active Cooler comes free with the ultimate edition, you will need to buy it separately for the base models.
The phone also features the touch sensitive Air Triggers which can be useful in playing games with too many controls.
The phone comes with two nano SIM slots. The SIM tray does not have any protection to prevent water seeping in. Seems like some cost cutting, but you probably won’t face any issues as long as you don’t take it swimming. The phone does not have any storage expansion slot.
The battery has a 6000mAh battery, with split battery design. The phone comes with a 30 W charger, but the phone itself supports upto 65 W fast charging.
The phone offers a lot of customization with the ROG Armory Crate application.
This time instead of a gimmick and fancy look ROG went for a mainstream design while still maintaining its uniqueness. Overall, the ROG Phone 5 is much more accessible as compared to its predecessors. The ROG Phone 5 is really impressive and it very well could be the best smartphone of 2021 as of now.

The 12GB + 256GB storage variant is available for INR57,999 in India.
The 16GB + 512GB storage variant is available for INR 69,999 in India.
