Making a game is not easy, we all know that. Making quality games not only requires development efforts, but also a lot of capital investment, especially for the visuals & graphics.

Epic Games has brought a good news for game developers, especially indie developers.

The assets for ‘What Remains of Edith Finch’ are now available for free on the Unreal Engine Marketplace.

What Remains of Edith Finch’ is an award-winning adventure game developed by Giant Sparrow and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game won ‘The Game Award’ for Best Narrative category in 2017. It also won the ‘BAFTA  Games Award’ for Best Game category in 2018 over titles like Horizon Zero Dawn & The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

A selection of assets such as models, props, materials, and more from the game have been released on the Unreal Marketplace platform for free.

The collection includes:

  • Over 3,000 stylized meshes with unique textures and materials
  • The Finch family’s unique home, with distinctive bedrooms and furnishings
  • Rustic family kitchen with appliances and kitchenware
  • Low-poly fantasy kingdom, with townspeople, stalls and castle building blocks
  • Misty beach environment, including outdoor wedding and party decorations & much more.
  • Assets for Paragon & Infinity Blade have also been available on the Unreal Engine Marketplace platform for years now.

“The first in a series of new, free content coming to the Unreal Engine Marketplace from teams across the community.”, says Epic in the post. This means more assets and other development material for the Unreal Engine might be coming to the marketplace soon. The assets have been added to the Unreal Marketplace and are available for free under an Unreal Engine initiative that aims to bring free high-quality content to all creators.

There’s a lot of assets available on the Unreal Engine Marketplace for free, but it comes with a small condition. Epic takes a 5 percent cut of an Unreal Engine game’s revenue once a title passes $1 million in sales.
