Apple takes shots at Epic Games’ Fortnite by promoting PUBG Mobile

The legal battle for Fornite’s removal from App Store still continues between Apple and Epic Games.

On August 28th, Apple took another shot at Epic Games by promoting PUBG Mobile at the top of the App Store on the same day they terminated Epic’s developer account.

The official App Store Twitter account also tweeted it out.

The promotion says, “The iconic battle royale is getting a total makeover.

The promotion featured the PUBG Mobile 1.0 update which will be released on September 8th. PUBG Mobile is considered to be one of the biggest competitors to  Fortnite in the battle royale genre, with a firm grasp onto the Asian market.

Now that Fortnite is blocked on the App Store, users can no longer receive updates to the game. This means while the rest of the world plays the game with its latest content updates, the iOS users who have previously installed the game will be stuck on the old version. Also, no one can download/re-download the game as its no longer possible for iOS.

Tim Sweeney, The Founder & CEO of Epic Games was quick to reply and point out that PUBG Mobile is built on Unreal Engine too.

Unreal Engine is one of the most popular game engines in the world. With support on almost every platform and being used by many indie game development studios and companies like Microsoft’s Xbox Studios.

The Unreal Engine 5 will be releasing sometime in 2021 with support to next-generation consoles. With almost every developer relying on Unreal it will be difficult for them to develop for iOS.

Both Apple and Epic Games will suffer loss of the user base because of this battle, but probably neither of two will back down from this lawsuit fight as they have millions of dollars to back themselves.
