Outriders could get “big expansion packs” in the future as developer wants to avoid “game as a service” monetization

With Outriders now out developer People Can Fly is now looking to support their new game. The developer aims to add “big expansion packs” in the future.

While speaking about the game’s future support Bartosz Kmita, the creative director said, “We spent a lot of time creating the very deep lore for this game, so it would be awesome to continue this adventure. But this is of course up to players. If they like the game, if they enjoy the game, they want to stay with it”. He further added, “That doesn’t mean we are doing the game as a service style of monetization. But that doesn’t mean we will just abandon the game after it’s out”.(Source: GamesRadar)

Clearly the company doesn’t aim to go with the “game as a service” monetization model.

Using Diablo as an example he then explained how Diablo wasn’t a game as a service and how they released expansion packs for the game.

Let’s take for example, the major game we took inspiration from, Diablo,” he said. He then explained, “Diablo wasn’t a game as a service. They just released the big expansion packs. They were doing it in a different style. Maybe we’ll go that way, or even do some other things. But for sure, we will not abandon the game if players like it“.

It’s a good sign that the developer wants to keep pushing new content, even if it’s in the form of expansion packs.

Outriders had a bumpy launch with several issues, that made some players unhappy.

But as time goes most of the issues will get fixed.
