World of Warcraft the MMORPG is soon going to release its newest expansion ‘Shadowlands’. Shadowlands is the latest expansion coming to the game this month after the ‘Battle for Azeroth’ in 2018. The Shadowlands expansion brings character customization, a new level cap, a new dungeon ‘Torghast’, and more to the game.

The ‘Shadowlands’ expansion for World of Warcraft reportedly has the highest pre-sales numbers and the franchise engagement is at its highest too.

The Shadowlands expansion brings character customization, a new level cap, a new dungeon ‘Torghast’, and more to the game.

The expansion was initially set to release on October 23 but delayed by a month with an announcement stating “we[the developers] need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces—particularly those related to the endgame.” The game will now be releasing this month on November 23.

“We’ve seen unprecedented engagement trends since the [World of Warcraft] subscriber base doubled following the launch of Classic last year. Pre-sales of the upcoming Shadowlands expansion are the highest we’ve seen at this stage ahead of any release.”, said Activision Blizzard CEO Robert “Bobby” Kotick, on a recent earnings call. Released in 2004, World of Warcraft is a 16 year old MMORPG game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Last year ‘World of Warcraft Classic’, a vanilla version of the game was released after which the game has reportedly seen a steady rise.

According to Kotick’s statement ‘Shadowlands’ has more pre-sales than ‘Battle for Azeroth’, ‘Legion’, ‘Warlords of Draenor’ or any other expansions till date.

Kotick added, World of Warcraft generated “over $1 billion” in annual net bookings, alongside Activison’s own Call of Duty and Candy Crush(developer ‘King’ acquired by Activision-Blizzard in 2016) franchises.

World of Warcraft is seeing a fairly active player base in time for Shadowland’s release.

“Franchise engagement is at its highest level for this stage ahead of an expansion in a decade,” said Activision Blizzard COO Daniel Alegre.

This shows that players are excited for the game and the Shadowlands expansion. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that Shadowlands will be a big success. The only way is to wait till the release on November 23.
