Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed for the third time

An update on the development of CyberPunk 2077 was shared via Twitter yesterday in which Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski from CD Projekt Red announced that the game will be getting delayed again, and this time by 3 weeks.

The tweet read that the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 has been moved forward by 21 days and the game will now be releasing on December 10. The game was supposed to release on November 19 this year. Up until this point, the game has already been delayed multiple times and now it is getting delayed again. The game was originally supposed to release on April 16, 2020 but then moved to September 17 and from there to November 19.

Also, it was recently revealed that CD Projekt Red employees were being forced into crunch time to meet the launch date of Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming open-world action RPG developed by CD Projekt Red, the team behind ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ and published by CD Projekt. The game was first announced back in 2012 and the first trailer dropped in January 2013. Cyberpunk 2077 has now become one of the most awaited upcoming games.

The announcement states,“The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/Pro, compatibility on PlayStation 5, PC, Stadia) while working from home”.

From the above quote, you can imagine how difficult it must be for a development team of approximately 500 employees only to develop and get the game polished for a launch on multiple platforms.

“Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or ‘going gold’, means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated.”, said Marcin Iwinski and Adam Badowski.

It means that the game is completely ready to be released, but the developers are taking more time to find and improve in areas they can before the game’s release. This might not seem that important, but it will help the company deliver a polished product that players will love. The delay is to work on a Day 0 patch to make improvements to the game and to make sure that players will have a smoother and better quality gameplay experience at launch across all platforms.

Marcin Iwinski and Adam Badowski ended with some strong words. saying “We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you’ll fall in love with.”

Overall, even though the game is getting delayed for the third time, players shouldn’t be disappointed as the game is still coming out this year and the minor delay is just to ensure that the game’s launch is perfect. If we’ve waited for so many years till now, let’s just wait for another 21 days.
