5 women who have acquired stardom in the gaming space

The world has witnessed many spellbinding and awestruck inventions in the past few years. But the invention that pleased (and continues to please) the world is none other than the Game. Yes, gaming! The introduction of the first game, “Pong,” threw confetti of happiness into everyone’s lives. It enabled everyone to achieve happiness virtually. The gaming community kept revitalizing ferociously, but one thing kept constant: women’s involvement in gaming. 

The Esports and Gaming industry used to be in twilight earlier, and whatever was available was being dominated by male gamers. And, now, since the industry has emerged from obscurity, the plays and the players have become trendy amongst the youth. Apart from gamers and game developers, the industry encompasses dozens of job disciplines, and its parts employ thousands of people worldwide.

But in a world where women are prevailing men in every field, how can gaming be an exception? 

No, they do not play candy crush or Farmville. In recent years, the number of women gamers in the community has increased by a lot. While some are dominating in esports tournaments others have established themselves as streamers on Twitch and YouTube.

Here are 5 women who have acquired stardom in the gaming space are:

1. Pokimane:

Imane Anys is well-known Moroccan-Canadian personality. She is a Twitch streamer and a Youtuber as well. She is known for playing variety of games, but is mostly known for streaming League of Legends and Fortnite.

Pokimane’s streams are extremely fun and entertaining. She started her streaming of Fortnite because of having sponsorships with them. gaming and streaming is her passions and she has established a loyal fan base because of her streaming consistency, spending more than 40 hours a week playing and streaming games. Pokimane draws huge watching numbers on every stream, no matter the game she plays.

2. Pooja Khatri:

Does one need to tell who is Pooja Khatri. Well, if it doesn’t ring your bell, Pooja Khatri is an infamous television actor. She is ferociously famous for her role in the TV show CID. Apart from that, she has played roles in many other famous TV shows. She started her professional gaming career in late 2018 as she had a zest for gaming.

Being a well-known actor gave her a little head start, her channel grew rapidly because of PUBG Mobile’s popularity. She is a really skilled player and entertainer.

3. Amouranth:

Kaitlyn Siragusa, better known as Amouranth, is a live streamer and Internet personality based in Housten. Amouranth is a cosplayer. She started her cosplay journey in 2010 when she was still in high school. But with a very dedicated effort, she, in 2015, started her own character company for the entertainment of the children through skills which she had sharpened from cosplaying.

She has been featured on local news stations and many other media platforms since her company’s inception. Her social media following is enough to prove her success. As of 2020, she had 3 Lakhs subscribers on YouTube, 2.3M on Instagram, and 1.6M followers on Twitch.

4. Rashi Chandra:

Rashi is the independent female gamer who has achieved many milestones; that too within a short span! Rashi hails from Noida. Yes, she is an Indian women’s gamer. Breaking all the stereotypes, Rashi has become a professional gamer.

Initially, Rashi worked for Apra Infotech. There, she found her passion for gaming. Day by day, she kept digging into the gaming world. She kept sharpening her skills in every Game she played. Information says that she is currently playing Witcher 3.

5. Niharika Patil:

Niharika ‘NihaNovacaine‘ Patil is a gamer, streamer, and cosplayer. She holds exceptional skill and talent in gameplay, which is the key reason which grabs attention. At the early age of 12, she was introduced to cosplay when she had gone crazy and enthusiastic about video games.

Her professional career in cosplay was initiated when she was still in junior college. She also established an anime club in Mumbai. She devotes a lot of time to entertaining her followers and viewers with her amazing gameplay.

The above listed women are not the only ones who have made it to the top, there are many more.

Women like Freya Spiers, Christine “potter” Chi,  Frankie Ward, Eefje Depoortere a.k.a sjokz excel in hosting broadcasts and interviewing in esports events. Lauren “Pansy” Scott has established herself as a well-known esports caster. This shows women love esports just as much as anyone else.

Also, Anna Donlon a.k.a Riot SuperCakes is the executive R&D lead for Valorant, one of the most hyped games right now.

Conclusion:

Number of women in gaming & esports may be less as compared to men, but with gaming growing rapidly, we are seeing more and more women getting involved in some form or another.
