Here’s what’s new in the Among Us BETA update

Among Us recently received a beta update which added some useful features to the game and we will have an in-depth look at those changes.

Although there were no official patch notes for this beta update, AOTF outlined the changes in one of their articles on the update.

Before we talk about the update, this update is released as a beta update, which means it hasn’t yet officially made its way into the original game. The update won’t be accessible directly, you will have to opt in to the beta first. We have shared steps on how to do that at the end of this article.

So, let’s dive into the update.

Taskbar updates:

You can decide when the task bar should show up. You can set it to ‘Always’ or ‘Meetings’ or ‘Never’. As their names suggest, ‘Always’ will keep the taskbar always open, while ‘Meeting’ will make it visible only when there’s a meeting, and ‘Never’ means it won’t be visible no matter what.

The default setting will be ‘Always’, you can change it to one of the other two, based on your preference.

Vote anonymity:

The new update allows you to choose whether your want votes to be hidden or not. This feature will help keep the votes anonymous making it easier for the suspect to  get away with a murder, which makes it fair for the suspect as well as makes the game more fun to play and watch for everyone.

A small fix for Color blind players:

You have to perform various in-game activities in Among Us which are labelled as ‘tasks’. Some tasks in the game are difficult to perform for players that suffer from color blindness. One of such tasks is the ‘Fix Wiring’ task, in which you have to match the colored wires with their  color coded connectors.

The new beta update added unique symbols to each wire to help players with color blindness differentiate them better.

With this update it is clear that the developers are keeping their promise of working on Color blind support, as they had stated in one of their older blog posts. This  levels the playing field for players suffering from color blindness, but the game still uses the same color based method to differentiate players which makes it difficult to vote for players suffering from color blindness. They still have to type out the player’s name every time, which isn’t very convenient. In a blogpost where the developers talked about the decision of focusing on Among Us 1 instead of developing Among Us 2, the developers made some interesting announcements. Innersloth developers said that they want to introduce a Friends/Account System to the game, making it easier to invite friends to your lobby and also add a new stage based on a Henry Stickmin themed location.

As of now the update is only available for beta users, which means if you’re not a beta user, you won’t be able to play with this new update. But, worry not as anyone who owns the game on Steam can get access to the latest beta updates.

Steam users can follow below steps, to get the beta access:

To receive the beta updates you will have to manually opt in for the beta releases. Here’s a quick 3 step guide on how to enable the beta.

• Right click the game in your Steam library
• Click on properties. Go to the ‘BETAS’ tab
• Choose the beta you want to opt in for (Public Beta in this case)

Innersloth the developers behind Among Us were working on a sequel to the game but decided to stop and focus on the original game, as the original game suddenly rose to popularity in 2020. The main reason being Twitch as every other streamer on Twitch was playing the game. Innersloth decided to bring the planned content to the original game instead. Which is why you can expect a lot of updates and content additions to the game for the rest of the year and 2021.
