‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ will release on launch date of Xbox’s next-gen consoles

The newest addition to the highly acclaimed Yakuza franchise, ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ will be releasing a little earlier than expected. The release date for ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ has been shifted to match the launch date for Xbox’s next-gen consoles.

RGG Studios(Ryu Ga Gotoku) announced via Twitter on September 28, ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ is coming to Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Windows 10, PlayStation 4, and Steam on November 10. 

The game was previously scheduled to release on November 13, but the game will now be released on the same day as the launch date of Xbox’s next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. The Xbox One users can upgrade their copy of the game to Xbox Series X | S, for free with Xbox’s Smart Delivery. Also, your save data will be compatible across the Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, thanks to Xbox’s Smart Delivery.

The game is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5 on March 2, 2021. RGG Studios also confirmed that users that own the PS4 digital version of the game can upgrade to PS5 for free at PlayStation Store immediately on the game’s PS5 release.

Yakuza is an action-adventure beat ’em up video game franchise by Sega loosely based on the life of the Japanese Mafia by the same name. The entire franchise is created, owned and published by SEGA. ‘Like a Dragon’ will be the eight installment in the franchise. ‘Like a Dragon’ will see a turn based RPG combat action unlike the other Yakuza installments.

Synopsis(Source: Wikipedia): In 2019, Ichiban Kasuga, a former member of the Tojo Clan’s Arakawa Family who is released after 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, ends up in Yokohama after the police and the Omi Alliance join forces. First time in the main series the game will shift its focus from Tokyo to Yokohama district of Isezaki Ijincho. It will also be the first game in the main franchise that will not have Kazuma Kiryu as its lead protagonist.

‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ was released in Japan in the month of January, earlier this year. The game will now be officially released for the rest of the world with English voiceovers and Western localization.

SEGA is also developing a live action adaptation of its Yakuza video game franchise, according to a recent exclusive article by Variety.
