Team Kolkata wins Valorant SKY SHOWDOWN 2020
Team Kolkata, represented by Velocity Gaming are the champions of Skyesports Championship 2.0 Valorant Showdown.
They defeated Team Chennai 2-1 in a bo3 grand final to win the championship.
The championship was a 3 day event organized by Skyesports in association with Loco and brands like HyperX, WD Black and Monster Energy. The championship had a huge combined prize pool of ₹ 150,000. Also, WD Black and HyperX products were offered to the MVP and the Star Player.
The best of 3 grand finals went something like this,
Team Kolkata took map 1 Ascent with a 13-8 scoreline. Team Chennai answered back by winning map 2 Bind 13-8. The decider map Split saw both teams going back and forth at the beginning of the first half, but Team Kolkata finished the match in style dominating their opposition with a 13-5 scoreline.
In the end, Team Kolkata won the tournament with a 2-1 score over Team Chennai, finishing first place and taking the bigger ₹ 60,000 slice of the prize pool pie.
Team Chennai had an exceptional performance, but failed to take down Team Kolkata in map 3. They took the runners up spot and ₹ 42,000 by finishing second place.
Through this and other tournaments, Team Tamilas(Team Chennai) have constantly shown that they have the skilled individuals to compete at the Tier 1 level of the Indian Valorant scene. There were moments where players from Team Tamilas were all over the scoreboard as they fragged out their opposition, but overall they still lacked the teamwork aspect.
Rafaa from Team Tamilas(Team Chennai) was the player who kept his form throughout the bo3 as well as the tournament and won the HyperX MVP Award and a HyperX Product.
Sabyasachi “antidote” Bose from Team Velocity Gaming(Team Kolkata) dominated throughout the bo3 and won the ‘WD BLACK Star Player Award’ and a WD Black SN 750 SSD.
On winning the WD Black star player award, Sabyasachi “antidote” Bose said, “ Commiserations to Chennai for the fight they gave; the final was an amazing spectacle. I am ecstatic at having won the WD Star Player of the Tournament. But, it was an overall team effort and we at VLT are proud that each and every member of the team contributes equally to our success.” He further added “ Our focus turns to the other tournaments that are running.
