5G will make socio-gaming accessible

Social interaction through games has always been a fun pathway to relaxation and mental stimulation, sometimes even stress relief. In today’s digital age, online socio-gaming is taking the world by storm. The people are bringing together gaming and socialization in a way we’ve never seen before and the world is still only learning just how influential gaming is. In India alone, mobile gaming is $1.5Bn today and it is expected to reach $5Bn+ by 2025.

Traditional gaming is quite costly considering its console-specific games that require gamers to purchase multiple consoles and PCs. It is also quite disadvantageous with respect to time as gaming on PC or console requires one to wait for the system to boot up, for the games to load and, manage disk space, not to mention how one has to be next to their gaming setup the entire time.

Nowadays, with the onrush of 5G technology, all a gamer will need is a screen and a controller. This is possible due to its potential to unbind games from all that hardware by transferring the computation power to the cloud, thereby erasing the need for gamers to possess expensive, top-of-the-line computer gaming rigs. Keeping in mind how the RAM of smartphones has increased by three to four times in the past five years, it is no surprise that the average Indian household has at least two smartphones. Since 5G applies to cellular networks, these mobile users will be the first to experience its advantages, hence easily enabling more advanced gaming. Streaming, too, has played a big role in socio-gaming. In the next couple of years, more streaming and multiplayer experiences can be expected and these will only get better as 5G improves streaming in the near future. Hence, any 5G-enabled mobile device can soon be turned into a portable gaming system that provides an excellent, graphics-rich gaming experience almost anywhere a 5G connection is available.

Building the metaverse extensively differs from creating a run-of-the-mill popular mobile game. It involves a highly immersive and interactive experience that will allow a greater overlap of our digital and physical lives when it comes to socialization and entertainment. It is also no secret that segments that involve high interaction between gamers also happen to be the biggest revenue generators.

5G technology is still a novel feature so we are yet to know its full potential but even with our limited knowledge, it is clear that it will bring some exceptional changes. Lag has always been an issue for online games but with 5G’s drastic latency reduction, the lag could become a thing of the past. One could play with their peers across the world without having to fret about their connection affecting their gameplay. In addition to this, 5G also has massive network capacity and improved reliability. This is a real boon for cloud gaming platforms, specifically those offering 4K gaming.

In this digital era where most people spend their time online, 5G socio-gaming will expand its domain in the years to come. With regards to availability, it will only get better as accessibility, extensive choice, affordability, and game variety, among many other features, keep improving with time. As mobile devices already make for convenient gaming platforms, when combined with 5G, socio-gaming will turn out to be a force to reckon with; a course for you and your friends to create everlasting memories by journeying on endless virtual adventures.
